Welcome to MEN WITH CUSTER UK, which is dedicated to the men from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland who served with George Armstrong Custer in the 7th U.S. Cavalry at the time of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, 25-26 June 1876.

MEN WITH CUSTER UK has been primarily designed to publish and promote biographical information relating to this disparate group of cavalry soldiers – and a small number of civilians – who were associated with this famous regiment and its legendary general, and whose origins were in the United Kingdom. The aim, over time, is  to create and maintain a database of verifiable factual material that will be universally recognised as a dependable source by anyone interested in this period of American history, irrespective of their level of knowledge.

It is also intended to be enjoyable, with each biography being presented in an informal but factual manner.

While great care has been taken to ensure that the information contained herein is correct the author is fully aware that factual, typographical and other errors can slip through even the most stringent vetting process. Visitors to this site are therefore actively encouraged to challenge the veracity of anything that differs from the findings of their own research, although a primary source should be provided as justification for any required corrections.  Any consequent amendments will be fully credited to the contributor.

For a host of different reasons it was not uncommon for a new recruit to provide spurious personal information on enlistment in the U.S. Army, specifically with regard to their name, age and place of birth, and in many cases it is highly unlikely that a positive identification will ever be made.

By its very nature, a biographical account is rarely definitive or complete and consequently each one will continue to be “work in progress,” albeit a comprehensive, interesting and accurate one.

Contributions to MEN WITH CUSTER UK are welcome.
